Historical Society Receives Quilt From Ankeny Family

The Ankeny Area Historical Museums received an 1855 quilt from Ernest and Judy Brown of Winterset, Iowa. The quilt’s square pattern is "Old Maid’s Puzzle" and the quilted squares are quilted in the "Feathered Circle" design. The boarder pattern is done in a "Double X" design. The signatures on the quilt are of Harriet Giese Ankeny, John Fletcher Ankeny and Harriet Ankeny Mott. John Fletcher Ankeny and his wife Sarah are founders of Ankeny. Harriet Giese Ankeny is John’s mother and Harriet Ankeny Mott is John and Sarah’s daughter.

Pictured with the quilt are Marilyn Shay (Collection Committee), Judy Brown (donator), Lory Brown Aleman (great-great granddaughter to John Fletcher Ankeny) and Barb Agan (Collection Committee)

Dollhouse Full of Miniatures

A detailed dollhouse donated by Rosa Quigley is on display in our barn. Mrs. Quigley collected miniature items from all over the United States during the past sixty years that represented memories of her childhood.
